About Travis

Travis Smeltz, a dedicated public servant and community leader, is a husband, father, grandfather, and proud member of the Schuylkill County community.  Raised in Hegins, PA, Travis developed a love for motorsports, starting with go-kart racing at the age of seven and later competing in motocross and demolition derbies. He also pursued boxing, wrestling, and mixed-martial arts, building a strong foundation of discipline and perseverance.

After earning a degree in Criminal Justice, Travis began his career in federal law enforcement, working at the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg and later transferring to the Federal Correctional Institution in Minersville. In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he joined the then-newly formed Federal Air Marshal Service, where he served for 20 years. During his tenure, Travis traveled over 5 million miles preventing and responding to national security incidents, conducting investigations, and assisting in legislatively advocating for his fellow agents as an elected Director of the Air Marshal Association.

After retiring from federal service, Travis transitioned to the private sector, founding two small businesses in Schuylkill County; one providing security and private investigation services and one providing excavation and hauling services. His commitment to public service continues as he serves on the Schuylkill County Zoning and Planning Commission, where he has been an appointed member for more than 5 years. Additionally, Travis is deeply involved in local charitable activities and has supported community initiatives such as youth sports and disaster relief efforts.

A passionate advocate for law enforcement and community safety, Travis brings decades of experience and a strong ethical foundation to his work. He has testified before Congress in support of active law enforcement and continues to dedicate his time to serving others.



Travis is fully certified to serve as a Magisterial District Judge, having completed all required coursework. His training, combined with his extensive background in law enforcement and criminal justice, enables him to make informed and fair legal decisions in the courtroom, serving our community with unwavering integrity to ensure justice is served.
